So here I was, sitting at Lafayette Village "subbing" for a member of another BNI group. It's a day like any other day and I get up to do my weekly presentation, "Hi, I'm Kirstyn with TMS Digital, your veteran & family-owned web design and digital marketing company. We specialize in web design, web development, social media marketing, listing management, and search engine operation. Focusing on the one-man, two-man show, up to 50 employees. Looking forward to connecting with all of you." Short and sweet and since there was another digital marketing company in the group, out of respect for that person, I did not ask for referrals.
After the meeting wrapped, several of us are hanging around and passing cards and chit-chatting and a fellow BNI-er approaches me and asks about listing management.
"What's listing management? Is that something my company should be doing?"
"Every company should be running listing management. Everyone."
"How do I know if I have it?"
I got his information, and told him I'd send him a listings' audit, which ended up being not so great...
A few days later we began his listing management program (also known as citation management, local SEO, or Off-Page SEO). The following month, he broke away from his current Big Box marketing company and rolled his website and SEO efforts to TMS Digital.
A few weeks later, I get a text:
This makes me so angry!
Wait, what!? I was thinking.
I was with this company for over a year. It's been less than a month and I'm now FINALLY ranking for the simplest of keywords. (electrician)
Fast forward three months; we deliver his first report:
Search visibility: 4,189% increase
Keyword movement: 20 moved up, 0 moved down
Keyword placement: 3 in the Top 3; 10 in 4-10; 6 in 11-20; and only 1 in 21+
It only took two and a half years and two nationally owned marketing companies (moonlighting themselves as local), but this Cary electrician realized that as a small business, it's probably best to do business with a company "more his size."
